Catered Ski Chalets

Catered ski chalets in the Alps

Book a catered ski chalet in the Alps

Over 700 catered ski chalets in the Alps to search and book. Many of the chalet companies we represent offer catered ski chalet holidays, where dedicated staff take care of breakfasts, afternoon teas, evening meals, and daily housekeeping.

Catered ski chalets are good for:
- Those you like to dine with friends or family in a 'home from home' space.
- Families who prefer to eat with their children in a relaxed environment.
- Those looking for a cheaper alternative to a half board hotel stay.

Reasons to avoid a catered chalet:
- Unless you book a high-end chalet your staff may not be able to cater for complicated dietary requirements.
- If you consider yourself a 'foodie' booking a lower cost catered chalet is probably not a good idea.
- Similarly, if you are a wine snob unless you go high-end you may be disappointed.

Today, there are several ways to enjoy a catered chalet holiday, each offering a slightly different style of service. From traditional fully-serviced chalets to modern contactless or pre-cooked meal options, there’s a style to suit every preference. Below, we’ve outlined each option to help you choose the perfect catering experience for your ski holiday.

Traditional catered ski chalets

The traditional catered chalet has been a favourite since the 1960s, offering dedicated chalet staff to take care of daily housekeeping and prepare breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner throughout your stay.

Breakfast is a delightful start to the day, with options ranging from freshly baked pastries and freshly squeezed juice to cooked favourites like eggs benedict, pancakes, or waffles. Before you head out to the slopes, your hosts prepare afternoon tea, which may include cakes, biscuits, or flapjacks, ready for you on your return.

Evenings begin with canapés, followed by a three-course dinner with complimentary wine. For families, a high tea can be prepared earlier for children, ensuring everyone enjoys a satisfying meal. Some chalets even allow guests to help themselves to wine later into the evening for a relaxed, leisurely dining experience.

A traditional catered chalet provides a complete holiday experience — no cooking, no cleaning, no washing up—just pure relaxation and enjoyment. Chalet staff typically have one or two days off each week, giving you the flexibility to explore local restaurants or use the kitchen if permitted.

Although catered ski chalets all follow the basic formula (providing breakfasts, teas and dinners) the quality of in-chalet catering, and the care and attention given to the preparation of your meals can vary enormously. Generally, the cheaper the chalet the less experienced your chalet staff are likely to be, and the smaller the weekly food budget they work to. Catered chalets we rate with 2 - 3 snowflakes by and large employ 'gap-year' boys or girls whose qualifications may only stretch to completing a basic 2-week cooking course during their summer vacation. You may be lucky and come across a budding Gordon Ramsay or Angela Hartnett who is both skilled and dedicated to doing their best. However, get unlucky and you may find your chalet staff are primarily in resort to either party or ski hard, with cooking coming in at a distant second place.

In the middle ground (4 snowflake catered chalets) you can expect tasty, well-balanced home-cooking style dinners accomnmpanied with perfectly drinkable wine. These mid-grade chalets may not offer culinary excellence but they will certainly give you meals that are more than satisfying.

    Pay more to get more

Like most things in life the more you pay the better the quality you are likely to receive. Book one of the higher-end catered ski chalets on our site and you will be in for a culinary treat. The chalet staff in our 5 and 6 snowflake chalets will almost certainly be dedicated professional chefs who cook to very high standards. Their attention to detail and care will be evident as they will be taking their cooking very seriously.

Catered chalets with a central resort kitchen

Catered chalets with central kitchens operate very similarly to traditional catered chalets, but with one key advantage: all meals are prepared by professional chefs in a central resort kitchen and then delivered to your chalet for your hosts to serve.

Meals are freshly prepared each day, ensuring consistently high quality and flavour across every property. This approach combines the comfort and personal service of a traditional catered chalet with the expertise of professional chefs, giving you a reliable and trustworthy dining experience.

We have experienced this style of catering with companies like Treeline Chalets and YSE Ski, and it consistently delivers tasty dinners and a seamless chalet experience.

This is an ideal option if you prefer flexibility with your schedule, whether returning late from the slopes or simply enjoying your own dining rhythm. For those looking to combine convenience with a catered service, companies offering this service include Ski France Classic and Ski France Premium.

Pre-cooked meals delivered by a 3rd party catering company

For those who prefer the flexibility of self-catered accommodation, pre-cooked meals delivered by specialist companies are an excellent option. These meals bring chalet-style dining straight to your door, ready to heat and serve at your convenience. Some may feel that there is still to much prep work and clearing away with this option but it will be cheaper than eating restaurant meals and does mean you do not have to spend time shopping and carrying bags back to your chalet. Please note that the option of pre-cooked meals is only available in certain ski resorts.
