Ski Chalets in Three Valleys

Ski chalets in the Three Valleys

Catered and self-catered Chalets in Three Valleys - France

Ski chalets in the Three Valleys ski area are highly popular with our clients and perfect for those that like to cruise one of the world's largest interlinked ski domains. Below we have over 400 chalets and apartments within this iconic ski area of the French Alps to book for your next ski holiday.

Since 1971 the full Three Valleys ski area has been interlinked with one of the Alps' largest ski lift networks. Over 600km of piste, nearly 200 modern lifts and acres of fantastic off-piste terrain await the keen skier or snowboarder. The Courchevel Valley to the east offers the four resorts that used to be known specifically by their altitude (now known as Courchevel 1850, Courchevel Moriond, Courchevel Village and Courchevel Le Praz, as well as La Tania. The middle Meribel Valley is home to the upper resort of Mottaret, the main resort Meribel, Meribel Village and Meribel Les Allues which sits a little lower down the valley. There are also many smaller hamlets such as La Gittaz and Nantgerel. To the west lies the Belleville River valley which is where you will find the resorts of St Martin de Belleville, and the high purpose built ski resorts of Reberty, Les Menuires and Val Thorens.

The Courchevel Valley

The Courchevel Valley is the most diverse area of the Three Valleys, offering everything from world-class luxury to excellent-value, family-friendly ski resorts.

The skiing in the Courchevel valley predominantly faces north which means that the snow conditions are maintained at their best. Skiing down to the lowest village of Courchevel Le Praz at 1,300 metres altitude is possible even into April as the run down (which is one of the great ‘home runs’) is both north facing and also shaded by the trees. The Saulire bowl which sits high above Courchevel 1850 offers some of the best skiing in the whole Three Valleys largely due to its north facing aspect, and the couloirs that feed into it offer some of the best challenging skiing in the Alps. The skiing above Courchevel Moriond is open, with wide gently sloping runs perfect for beginners. These slopes get more sun but as the resort height is high (at 1,650 metres) the skiing is good through to the end of the season in April.

The Meribel Valley

The Meribel Valley sits at the heart of the Three Valleys ski area, making it one of the best locations for skiers who want easy access to all three valleys. Originally developed by David Lindsay (shortly after WWII), Meribel remains especially popular with British skiers and offers a wide choice of chalets, hotels and apartments across several villages.

Unlike Courchevel the topography of the Meribel Valley is very much based around west facing slopes on one side and east facing slopes on the other, with the north facing Mont Vallon at the head of the valley. It pays to follow the sun, especially in March and April, skiing the east facing slopes first thing and then moving to the west facing slopes for afternoon skiing.

With nearly 150 ski chalets across the valley and a central position within the Three Valleys, Meribel is an excellent choice for mixed-ability groups and skiers who want variety both on and off the mountain.

The Val Thorens Valley

The Val Thorens and Belleville Valley forms the westernmost part of the Three Valleys and is best known for its high altitude, snow-sure skiing and long season. The main resorts of Val Thorens and Les Menuires are very much purpose built with mainly hotel and apartment accommodation (although there is a concentration of chalets in the prettier resort of Reberty which sits just above Les Menuires). St Martin de Belleville which is at the same altitude of Meribel at 1,450 metres is more traditional with an older centre still showing signs of its farming community roots.

Which ski resort in the Three Valleys to choose

Booking your Three Valleys ski chalet with Alpine Answers is straightforward. Browse chalets and apartments from approximately 50 trusted chalet companies, compare prices and availability, and book with confidence. There is no extra cost to book through us, and our advice is always free. However, which ski resort in the Three Valleys should you choose for your next ski chalet holiday? We summarise the different resorts below...

    • Courchevel 1850
This is one of the most prestigious ski resorts in the world with superb collection of luxury chalets (and hotels), high concentration of Michelin starred restaurants and wide array of top-class shopping. Easy access to superb high altitude skiing suitable for all standards. As might be expected from one of the world's best ski resorts the chalets of Courchevel 1850 come with suitable price tag attached.
    • Courchevel Moriond
Formerly known as Courchevel 1650 this resort offers a high number of more affordable catered chalets and high class self-catering apartments. The local area is perfect for beginner skiers with wide, gentle slopes and high quality ski schools. It doesn't have the kudos of 1850 or the international recognition or the high-end shopping but it offers a quieter and more affordable option.
    • Courchevel Village
Formerly known as Courchevel 1550 this resort lies immediately below the centre of Courchevel 1850 and is directly connected via gondola lift. Like Courchevel Moriond, it doesn't have the kudos of 1850 or the international recognition or the high-end shopping but it offers a quieter and more affordable option.
    • Courchevel Le Praz
Formerly known as Courchevel 1300 this pretty, village style resort is one of the original farming communities in the valley and as such it offers considerable charm and a sense of place. The new 10-person high-speed gondola linking Le Praz directly to Courchevel 1850 in under 6 minutes was completed in 2019 and catapulted this charming resort into one of the most desirable locations in the valley.
    • La Tania
Originally built for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics as a centre to house the athletes this resort has really come into its own over the last 30-40 years. Today there are lots of affordable catered chalets, many of which give easy ski in ski out access to the Moretta piste. The resort is largely car-free and as such is perfect for families. The apres ski scene in La Tania is now established with a couple of lively bars - more than enough to keep you entertained for a week's holiday.
    • Meribel Les Allues
Like Courchevel Le Praz this was originally a farming community and the narrow pedestrian streets of the village centre reflect this rural heritage. It is linked to the main resort of Meribel by road and also by the Olympe Gondola which ascends the Doron Valley all the way from Brides Les Bains. There are some very dood value catered chalets located here. Ski locker rental is advised at the Chaudanne lift hub of main resort Meribel.
    • Meribel Village
Meribel Village can easily be confused with main resort Meribel or Meribel Les Allues but it is totally separate from either. Linked to the ski slopes of the altiport area immediately above main Meribel this is a quiet, yet charming village resort. The Golf Chairlift provides easy access to the main ski area and 'The Lodge' is a lively apres ski bar / late night bar that often hosts live acts. The village offers a super market and good boulangerie but not much else so shoppers take note. Also worth noting is that ski schools do not meet here so if you are beginner and need to access the meeting points in Meribel main resort you will need to access the resort bus service.
    • Meribel
Meribel is the main ski resort of the valley (with 36,000 - 40,000 tourist beds) and was first discovered and developed as a ski resort shortly after WWII. Today the resort sprawls up the lower slopes of the Saulire Mountain and offers a huge array of accommodation options in chalets, apartments and a growing number of luxury hotels. The resort is distinctly English in atmosphere with lively bars, nightclubs and apres ski venues such as the Folie Douce, Ronnies and Jack's Bar.
    • Mottaret
Lying further up the valley at an altitude of 1,750 metres lies the purpose built resort of Mottaret which was first established in 1972 and later developed for the 1992 Winter Olympics. It is largely made up of affordable and large self-catering residence blocks but there are also a few catered chalets - also offering very good value accommodation.
    • St Martin de Belleville
We are big fans of this pretty, chalet style resort with its high speed gondola linking directly to the high slopes above Les Menuires. Over the last two decades it has grown substantially as a luxury chalet ski resort where the land prices are still cheaper than in Meribel and considerably cheaper than in Courchevel. We have a superb collection of premier chalet properties in St Martin de Belleville which for the most part are offered at reasonable prices.
    • Reberty
Reberty (and neighbouring Les Menuires) offers fantastic value with the cheapest chalet accommodation in the entire Three Valleys ski area. However, despite offering value the chalets of Reberty offer ski in ski out access (or just a very short walk) to the lifts and the ski school meeting point. Families love the chalets of Reberty as they offer affordable, snow-sure skiing well into April with terrain that is perfect for beginners and aspiring intermediates.
    • Val Thorens
Val Thorens is often cited as the highest ski resort in the Alps. At an altitude of 2,300 metres we would certainly not disagree with this claim. With 25,000 plus tourist beds (mostly in cheaper self-catering apartments) this is a large resort and although built in a rather austere (from a distance) architectural style well above the tree-line it does have some charm once you are resort/street level. Access to and from the skiing is snow-sure from early December through to May and largely ski in ski out. The resort has a popular Folie Douce apres bar on the slopes above the centre and the resort is popular with young looking for a lively scene.

Booking your Three Valleys ski chalet with Alpine Answers is straightforward. Browse chalets and apartments from around 50 trusted chalet companies, compare prices and availability, and book with confidence. There is no extra cost to book through us, and our advice is always free.

    • Catered or self catered chalet? Chalets in the Three Valleys are available on either a catered or self-catered basis (you can filter by both). Catered chalets include staff to cook, host and clean during your stay, allowing you to relax after skiing. Learn more about chalet catering. Self-catered chalets and apartments offer greater flexibility and are often better value. Guests can cook for themselves, eat out, arrange meal deliveries, or book a private chef. See details for booking private chefs in the Alps.
    • What are the best ski schools in the Three Valleys?
We provide links and details to the best ski schools in The Three Valleys. From the E.S.F. (Ecole Ski Francais) which offers best prices but larger group sizes for lesson groups to the smaller, independent ski schools such as New Generation offering better service but at a higher price.
    • How do I book ski equipment hire?
There are many, many different options when it comes to booking your ski hire. However, which ever provider you use it is always cheaper to pre-book online rather than pay the 'walk-in' price. You can either opt for value by using Skiset, or choose a provider who will deliver to your accommodation and pick up your equipment at the end of your stay.
    • How do I get my lift pass?
This is best arranged through your accommodation provider who will usually be able to have your lift passes ready and waiting for your arrival. You can also book online direct with the lift pass company. This latter option may save you a little on the price as you may benefit from a more accurate exchange rate when you pay. The price for a 6 day Three Valleys (full area) lift pass for the 2025-26 winter is 409.00 euros.
    • How do I get to my chalet?
If you are arranging your own flights we recommend choosing Geneva Airport as your travel gateway as this gives the widest choice of taxi transfer companies to choose from. We can make bookings for you with our trusted taxi suppliers but bear in mind that the standard vehicle size (VW Caravelle or Mercedes Viano) takes 8 passengers as a maximum, and less if you are taking skis with you. Parties of 9+ will often require two vehicles which doubles the cost of your airport transfers. Some of the chalets that we sell in the Three Valleys come packaged with flights from the UK to either Geneva, Chambery or Lyon. These holidays come packaged with return shared coach transfers which provide good value.
    • Which are the best chalet companies in the Three Valleys area?
Our free booking service allows you to book self-catered or catered properties in the Three Valleys from a wide selection of the best chalet companies and accommodation providers. We list properties that can be booked through UK chalet companies provding predominantly catered chalets and French accommodation agencies which offer properties that can be booked on a self-catered basis.
