The Hotel Ancora is one of the oldest and best-known hotels in Cortina and follows an architectural style typical of the d' Ampezzo region with delightful wooden balconies overlooking the picturesque town and largely pedestrian centre. Built in 1826 the hotel has now been in the same family for more than a century.
The Ancora is uniquely decorated and styled - part Tirol and part Art Nouveau. The lobby features an old carved wooden ceiling and a very beautiful Tirolean ceramic stove or Kachel, while the dining room has a Gothic style vaulted ceiling, columns, cream-painted period furniture and the odd bit of gilding. The fine international cuisine produced by the Ancora is something the owners are justifiably proud of. The frescoed and candle-lit dining room is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious evening meal, often accompanied by classical music.
The Ancora is a gem within The Charming Hotels chain and to add to the glamour you will find waiters attired in black tie, gilt-edged crockery, Ginori china, and a substantial collection of antiques and modern art. All this tradition is managed by the charismatic owners, Flavia & Renato Sartor, who pay as much attention to their guests as they do to the food, rooms and service they provide.
When one stays at the Ancora you are surrounded by traditional elegance. Waiters and staff are dressed accordingly and are attentive and polite but also very friendly. If you want a traditional Alpine experience you will most definitely get it staying here.
