Ski Resorts with Chalets Only

While the resort of Soldeu has little of what we call 'alpine charm', it is none the less a very modern resort with excellent facilities and a large integrated ski area (19 black runs, 41 red, 55 blue and 24 green). The combined Grandvalira ski area has excellent snow parks, children's snow garde...

The resort of Alpbach with its narrow streets, wooden chalets and beautiful tree-lined settings remains one of the most charming villages in the Austrian Tyrol. There are lots of family-run hotels and B&Bs offering traditional Austrian accommodation, but just be aware that you will need to ca...

Bad Kleinkirchheim is tucked away on the edge of the Nock Mountain National Park in Carinthia, in the far south-east of Austria, near the Italian and Slovenian borders. The nearest airports are Klagenfurt (around 50 minutes away) and Ljubljana (90 minutes). Salzburg is less than two hours away. ...

Ellmau sits on the northern edge of the vast Skiwelt, one of the world's largest linked ski areas. A seriously impressive lift system will take you across the Hartkaiser mountain towards the resorts of Scheffau, Söll, Hopfgarten, Westendorf and Brixen im Thale. Until 2016 Fieberbrunn was its own small ski resort. It had a pretty, traditional and charming Tryolean village centre and 4 or 5 ski lifts that accessed the largely north facing home slopes. To ski from one end to the other and back would take a good skier all day (with little hanging about) and takes in s...

Hinterglemm is the less glitzy neighbouring resort to Saalbach. Four kilometres away and sharing the same excellent ski area, Hinterglemm offers some great value accommodation. The après ski scene is fairly lively (as in Saalbach) but there is less noisy nightlife - perfect for families preferrin...

Ischgl is considered internationally to be Austria's second most important resort after St Anton, yet the Brits don't go in big numbers which is rather strange. We like Ischgl for its compact village and predominantly traditional style buildings, excellent intermediate slopes and one of the best ...

The ski resort of Kaprun is the closest village to Austria's fabulous Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area, offering guaranteed snow and year-round snow sports. This likeable laid-back village also has its own local family-friendly ski hill, the Maiskogel, plus easy access to the slopes of the nearby l...

Kirchberg is the baby sister of Kitzbuhel, so If you're looking for a quieter place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Kitzbuhel, you need look no further than Kirchberg. You benefit from the same access to the world-renowned 188km of slopes, impressive modern lift system and varied terra...
