Ski in Ski out Chalets Val d'Isere

Ski in ski out chalets Val d'Isere

Ski in ski out chalets Val d’Isere are hugely popular and if we had a pound for every time a client asked for one we could have packed up years ago and retired to the beach (or the slopes!). Val d’Isere has been the most popular resort with our clients since time began and with nearly 200 chalets in Val d’Isere and a fantastic collection of hotels it’s hardly surprising that this resort has been a huge favourite with the British market since the 1970’s.

Despite the huge choice of chalet properties in Val d’Isere with fabulous facilities such as swimming pools, private cinemas, full-on chalet spas, superb catering and top quality service it is the ski in ski out chalets which are always the most popular with clients. Although many chalets which are located away from the slopes and lifts also come with their own private driver service (making getting skiing and returning at the end of the day a doddle) it is the chalets that are situated on the edge of the piste, or right by the lifts, that clients gravitate towards when booking. Walking in ski boots and carrying skis are aspects of a ski holiday that not everyone appreciates and when clients also have small children to get to and from the lifts we shouldn’t be surprised that they want a ski in ski out chalet.

Val d’Isere is a big ski resort and with the home pistes descending to four different areas there are several geographical areas of the resort to look at when it comes to finding your ideal property.

Ski in ski out chalets Val d’Isere near resort centre

The most obvious place to look for a ski in ski out chalet in Val d'Isere is close to the main lifts. The Solaise Express chairlift (replaced by a gondola in December 2016), the Bellevarde Express chairlift and the large Olympique gondola all depart from a flat area of pistes (and nursery slopes) called the 'front de neige' which is found immediately behind the centre of the resort. Although the older hotels in Val d’Isere occupy a position here (and thereby give easy access to the lifts and pistes) there are also several chalets that are situated in this location. A great example are the smart and comfortable chalet apartments within the Santons building which are very popular with families.

Beyond the front de neige area heading in a south westerly direction away from the main resort centre is the mountain stream valley of the Ruisseau de la Calabourdane. Here you will find the residential areas of Val d’Isere called Rond Point, Joseray and Legettaz and in all three there are quite a few ski in ski out chalets. Those situated at the Rond Point have the added advantage of being where the free bus service stops which means that not only do you have great access to and from the pistes but you also can get to and from the centre of town on the free bus service (which operates until 2am each night). This is useful for anyone wanting to get involved with the après ski and nightlife scene of Val d’Isere. Chalets in the Aquila building would make a great choice of ski in ski out chalet in the Rond Point area of Val.

There are eight Bellevarde Lodges which are located in the Legettaz area and are situated right on the edge of the Santons piste - the Bellevarde Lodge No.2 is one of our favourites. This blue grade run gently descends to the area of main lifts and the ski school meeting point which is behind the centre of Val d’Isere. In the morning even the most timid of skiers can take this run down to the lifts which makes these chalets ski out even for near beginner skiers. Returning to the chalets of Rond Point, Legettaz and Joseray on skis is very do-able but is a little trickier and therefore we only advise this if you are a competent red run skier/boarder. The upper section of the Santons run is a fairly steep and narrow red grade piste which when icy and crowded can be intimidating but descending from the Solaise Mountain is a bit easier. However, take note... if you are skiing back to any of the chalets in Rond Point, Joseray or Leggettaz from the Bellevarde Mountain you will need to tackle the infamous Face black run. Although sometimes this is a pussy cat more often than not it’s a bit of a brute, especially on tired legs.

The other location near the centre where you will find ski in ski out chalets in Val d’Isere is the exclusive Les Carats area of resort. Perched on a ledge and overlooking the entire resort is the south facing enclave of luxury chalets where you will find some of the finest chalet properties in Val d’Isere. Although situated at the foot of the black Face run the ‘ski out’ in the morning is fairly gentle. However, as already noted, the ski back down the Face is anything but. No matter – these lovely chalets all have a private driver service which will pick you up from wherever you end up and whisk you back for afternoon tea by the fire.

Ski in ski out chalets Val d’Isere – La Daille

More often than not you will finish your ski day at La Daille which is an area separated from the main centre of Val d’Isere by a 2km stretch of road. There are two main reasons for ending up in La Daille. Firstly, the Coupe du Monde OK run (or more simply the ‘OK’) is arguably the easiest and also the most enjoyable run that reaches down to the valley floor. Secondly, if you have stopped at the Folie Douce for a few afternoon après ski drinks the only way back to the resort (once the lifts have closed) is to descend to La Daille and then take the bus from there to the resort centre. Chalets that are located in La Daille are therefore great for skiing back to and you can’t get closer to the piste than the Chalet des Pistes. In the morning chalets like this one are only a stone’s throw away from either the La Daille gondola or the Funival funicular. Constructed in 1987 at a cost of 60 million Francs (9 million euros) this lift climbs nearly 900 vertical metres in a little over 3 minutes making it one of the most efficient ways up a mountain anywhere in the world!
