Overview
This new hotel from the French group Beaumier is something different for old-school Wengen. Having had a complete facelift
inside the bones of two classic hotels that date back to Wengen's early 20th-century heyday the Grand Belvedere is now contemporary, hip and the only 5 star hotel in the resort.
The rooms offer an alpine freshness with lightly scented wooden walls on one side, light fittings shaped like little icebergs, and mid-century-ish furniture in soft greens and ochres. The bathrooms incorporate crisp granite and wood with products by the Australian skincare brand Grown Alchemist, mirrors swing outwards so that you can see the valley views beyond the balcony as you're brushing your teeth (it's worth booking a room with a valley view).
When it's time to eat, you're in for a treat. The hotel's dining and drinking venues include a modern brasserie and a fine-dining restaurant. The restaurant takes a simple approach to gourmet dining, using fresh local ingredients to make tasty dishes that change with the seasons. Breakfasts in the brasserie are amazing as are the post-ski cocktails in the Bergwald Bar.
The Spa which is a new addition entirey offers both an indoor-outdoor pool inspired by Japanese bathing culture, as well as a sauna, hammam and four treatment rooms with products by Austrian Susanne Kaufmann.
Wengen's only five-star hotel looks set to shine a new spotlight on the village and the region.
