Ski holidays Laax - international half pipe events

Voted the world’s best freestyle resort for the last two years, Laax attracts the most accomplished skiers and snowboarders from across the globe. Laax is a purpose-built resort village unlike its neighbouring resort town of Flims and as such it doesn’t offer the same Swiss charm. However, what it lacks in charm it more than makes up with super easy access to and from the ski area and a fun, social resort atmosphere with a strong focal point of bars and restaurants at the rocksresort Design Hotel. This innovative hotel is located at the foot of the slopes and next to the main gondola station.

Chalets are very few and far between in Laax (although there are some privately owned alpine homes) but there is a great selection hotels and self-catering apartments which mostly offer ski in ski out convenience.

As the central resort village in the Flims-Laax-Falera ski area, Laax guests have access to 220km of slopes - more than enough to satisfy for a week. The ski area offers the best selection of pistes for intermediates, and is also great for beginners with plenty of confidence inspiring high altitude, wide, sunny and gentle slopes. Whilst there only a few steep challenging pistes, there are a number of off-piste itinerary runs which add to the diversity for experts looking for thrills. Many Laax guests come just for the freestyle ski and snowboarding scene – there are 4 snow parks here as well as the biggest halfpipe in the world. If you fancy honing your jump skills there is also an indoor ramp in Laax with foam pit, ensuring that every landing is a safe one!

Ski holidays in Laax – awesome experiences on and off the mountain

With four freestyle parks and the world’s biggest halfpipe, it’s no surprise Laax is a freestyler’s dream resort. However, there is a lot more to the mountain other than the terrain park! There are a fantastic selection of restaurants, ranging from the unusual (think amazing steak served in a tepee at 1,800m), to the classic (an old mountain hut turned into a Swiss fondue stube).

During competitions, the resort is buzzing with big name professional skiers and snowboarders. The Riders Palace Hotel nightclub feels more like a cool capital city establishment in comparison to the more typical mountain clubs in other ski resorts. For those who still want atmosphere but don’t want full-on table dancing, Laax has a great range of bars with a more refined atmosphere.

Family ski holidays in Laax

All of the Laax hotels are either located within a very short walking distance of the main lifts and ski school meeting point, or offer a free shuttle service. There is also a free bus that runs between Laax and neighbouring resorts Flims and Falera. Laax is a great place for families with younger children – the ski area is perfect for beginners and will help young skiers build confidence very quickly. The Flims-Laax-Falera ski school also has excellent instructors, many of whom are British or speak English as their first language.

Late season ski holidays in Flims

The Flims-Laax-Falera ski area sits in a large, high altitude bowl with a lot of the slopes facing south. Even in deep mid-winter when the sun sits lower in the sky skiing in Laax is a sun-soaked experience when the sun shines. Although towards the end of the season the lower runs can get slushy the majority of the slopes are well over 2,000m in altitude which means Laax is well suited for April skiing.
