Ski Hire in Val Thorens
There are approximately 17 different ski hire shops in Val Thorens nearly all of which belong to the big franchised rental outlets of Twinner, Intersport, Ski Republic, Sport 2000 and Skimium. However, there is also the excellent miniple ski rental stores run by Goitschel under the Skiset banner. Val Thorens is surprisingly pedestrian friendly with walkways, sky bridges, escalators and lifts connecting the various levels together. However, with so many rental stores available it is obviously most practical to book ski equipment with a shop that is located close to your accommodation.
Arranging ski hire in Val Thorens - your options
For the best prices (up to 45% discount from the walk-in price) and a wide range of equipment please use our online ski hire booking service. For this we have teamed up with SKISET who have the largest network of ski hire outlets across the Alps. Select your accommodation from the drop down list (see map below) to show where you are staying in relation to their stores.
The online booking process is as easy as pie. There is no need to enter your shoe size, weight or height. Simply choose your 1st ski day (usually the day after you arrive in resort), the number of days you wish to hire for and what category of equipment you wish to book. On booking you will receive an email receipt for your booking with an attached voucher. Please print this voucher and present at any SKISET store in your resort.
For each quality category there are many different makes and models of skis and snowboards to choose from. The shop staff in resort will help you select the best equipment from the category you booked to match your ability, preferred ski terrain (piste, park or off-piste) and the prevailing ski/snowboarding conditions.
Your ski hire voucher can be used at the following SKISET stores (see map below):
- Goitschel Sports 1: In the Galerie Peclet on the Rue de Gebroulaz - opposite the renown Frog & Roastbeef.
- Goitschel Sports 2: Located in the heart of the resort and next to the Tourist Office on the Place de Caron.
- Goitschel Sports 3: Located in the lower section of Val Thorens on the Rue de Soleil.
- Goitschel Sports 4: Located in the upper part of the resort just off the Grande Rue in the Residence L'Altineige.
Extended ski hire for 7 or more daysIf you wish to hire for 7 or more days please visit the SKISET website. Their online booking system will accept bookings of 7 days or more. Use this link to benefit from special rates for Alpine Answers clients: Hire periods of 7 or more days.
SKISET 'Premium' category of rental equipmentThe top category of rental equipment available through any holiday company is the 'Excellence' category (which we price below). However, if you book directly through the SKISET website there is a more expensive 'Premium' category available in larger resort for those that have to have the best no matter the extra cost.
If you staying on the Rue des Balcons (with Skiworld or Ski Total)
There are lots of catered chalet apartments with Skiworld and Ski Total located in the upper most section of the resort, the Rue des Balcons. There is an Intersport ski hire shop which is very handily placed if staying in this area of resort. If you wish to book at this nearby Intersport store it needs to be as an addition to your main holiday booking with either Ski Total or Skiworld (we can help with this).
Our nearest SKISET store to the Rue des Balcons (Goitschel Sports 2) is in the centre of Val Thorens next to the tourist office. This is easily reached on the free shuttle bus service which runs every 20 minutes (use the dark green 'Cicuit de la Boucle'). This shuttle route starts outside the chalets on the Rue des Balcons and in two stops reaches the tourist office. It then continues around the upper part of the resort before finishing its loop (4 stops from the tourist office) back at the Rue des Balcons. Our prices below at the Goitschel Sports 2 store should be cheaper than the prices offered by either Ski Total or Skiworld at their Intersport shop which makes the bus journey worth while.
