With just a few days left until Valentines Day, we've collected our most romantic ski resorts in Europe, across the French, Swiss and Austrian Alps. From glamorous, exclusive towns to pretty alpine villages, these are our favourite destinations from a romantic ski getaway! We've also included our favourite romantic hotels for each resort. What could be a better Valentine's Day gift than an amazing ski holiday?
Zermatt is one of the most luxurious and exclusive ski resorts in Switzerland, and it is also a perfect destination for a romantic ski holiday. It is a lively and atmospheric Swiss alpine village, with lots of pretty buildings and traditional architecture. The resort itself is car-free, so you have to take a romantic train ride through the snowy forests to get in. Besides the excellent skiing, there are plenty of world-class restaurants to enjoy, both in the village, on the mountain, and in the neighbouring Italian resort of Cervinia. After dark, there's a wide range of venues to visit, from cocktail bars to fancy hotels. All of this under the shadow of the iconic Matterhorn mountain! Zermatt is a glamorous ski resort, perfect for a romantic ski holiday.
The Omnia Hotel
The Omnia in Zermatt is a breath-taking 5-star ski hotel built into the side of the mountain. Accessible only via lift from the main road, the hotel is full of dramatic, contemporary design. There are 30 rooms, including 12 suites, and a large spa and wellness suite. The hotel restaurant is one of the best restaurants in resort.
Perched high in the Austrian Alps, Lech is a classy ski resort with a refined atmosphere and is an excellent resort for a romantic ski holiday. Connected to the vast Arlberg ski region, the skiing here is excellent, especially the off-piste. The village itself is very pretty, with a bubbling river running through the centre and many beautiful, luxury hotels. There's also a wide range of prestigious restaurants and bars to enjoy. Why not take a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride through the Zug valley?
The Hotel Arlberg is a beautiful 5-star ski hotel in Lech, situated opposite the main lift station and close to the centre of the resort. It's piste-side location means it is possible to ski to the door at the end of the day. There are 52 rooms and a large spa including an indoor pool, gym, saunas and a steam bath, as well as an excellent hotel restaurant.
Kitzbuhel is a traditional Austrian town, and offers a wonderful choice of destination for a romantic ski holiday in Austria. The town is surrounded by amazing scenery and has access to a large ski area with a fantastic variety of slopes. At the heart of the village is the traffic-free medieval centre; a walled town with cobbled streets and lots of beautiful alpine architecture. Kitzbuhel has many stunning hotels and a lively apres ski and nightlife scene. Whilst there are many great restaurants in town, the mountain huts are particularly good.
Hotel Schwarzer Adler
Hotel Schwarzer Adler is a beautiful 4-star hotel in Kitzbuhel, situated 150m from the centre of the resort and just over 500m from the Hahnenhamm gondola. The hotel's 2 excellent restaurants serve award-winning cuisine. Hotel Schwarzer Adler also has an exceptional spa and wellness suite of over 1000sqm, including saunas, a Turkish bath, herbal aromatic steam bath, gym, private massage rooms and more. There is also an indoor swimming pool and the largest rooftop pool in the Alps, with 360-degree views of Kitzbuhel and the surrounding mountains.
Morzine is a large, traditional French ski resort on the edge of the extensive Portes du Soleil ski region. Close to Geneva airport, with less a transfer time of less than 1 hour on a good day, Morzine is the perfect resort for a romantic ski weekend. The village itself is full of beautiful mountain architecture and surrounded by gorgeous alpine scenery. It has one of the best apres ski scenes in France, and there are plenty of great bars and restaurants dotted around resort to visit after dark.
Hotel Petit Dru
Hotel Petit Dru is located in a peaceful location on the edge of Morzine, close to a local bus stop which makes accessing the centre of Morzine and the main lift station quick and convenient. The hotel has a lovely spa area, with sauna, hot tub and heated swimming pool. There are 75 rooms, and we recommend booking a superior double. The restaurant serves great food, the staff are efficient and friendly, and the interior design is cosy and modern but has plenty of alpine charm and character.
Val d'Isere is a beautiful French ski resort, with a traditional alpine centre and surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. At the heart of the village, there is a pretty Parish church and an old town with cobbled streets. The classic alpine architecture looks particularly pretty lit up at night. Val d'Isere has an amazing range of bars and restaurants, from Michelin star dining to cosy, family-run restaurants, as well as a large number of glamorous hotels and chalets. The ski area, linked with Tignes, is large and varied and well suited to all ski abilities. All of this makes Val d'Isere a lovely location for a romantic ski holiday in the French Alps.
Hotel Le Blizzard
Hotel Le Blizzard is a stunning, 5-star ski hotel located in the very centre of Val d'Isere. There are 70 rooms, all beautifully decorated in traditional French Savoyard style, have lovely views of the village or the mountains. The interior design features plenty of natural wood and local stone, giving it a genuinely cosy alpine feel. There are 2 excellent restaurants and a large spa and wellness suite.
