Powder Skiing in Whistler

| | Ski Resorts

It’s a bluebird day, 60cm of fresh powder has fallen, what resort will not be tracked out in the first half an hour of the lifts opening? Powder skiing in Whistler – it’s the only place to be. It can only be described as awesome. I was lucky enough to spend a whole season here and this is when my love for skiing grew to an obsession! Whistler is a luxury ski resort that can accommodate everyone. The main thing is that everyone in Whistler is there for one reason and one reason only, the powder!

Whistler is the largest ski resort in North America consisting of Blackcomb Mountain and Whistler Mountain. It spreads over 8,171 acres of ski area with plenty of pistes, trials and off-piste opportunities. With the new Peak to Peak Gondola that connects the two mountains, it has made skiing in both Blackcomb and Whistler easy, opening a larger area for everyone. Whistler as a resort is filled with friendly staff and a buzzing atmosphere.

Where are the powder hounds?

The vast ski area beyond the pistes, Flute Bowl, a particular favourite of mine. A short hike from below the Symphony Express Chair opens up a whole new area to ski in!

Fresh Tracks Mountain Top Breakfast

For just $20 you get to be the first on the mountain and get those fresh tracks as well as an incredible hearty breakfast. The Whistler Village Gondola opens at 7.15 am but, for those really wanting the best lines, you will want to get to the queue nice and early. I got there at 5.30 am and I was not the first! Be sure to keep an eye on the weekly forecast to time the dump of powder perfectly!

The Secret Wonders of 7th Heaven

Do you ever get that feeling when you are skiing along and nothing (apart from maybe hitting a tree) will wipe that smile off your face? Skiing 7th Heaven is like that! It is a popular area of the resort, however, if you know where to go it doubles in size. There are tight tree runs and pillow lines behind the reservoir on the Greenline piste, great for filming fun lines and deep powder.

Heli-Skiing

If you are looking for a luxury heli-ski trip, Whistler is the place to give it a go! The day will consist of lovely pastries on arrival, with a mountain picnic in the snow and on your return a lovely selection of cakes. For untouched snow, high-quality service and guiding this is an adventure not to be missed. Alternatively, Cat Skiing in Whistler is a cheaper but equally as good option to seek fresh powder.

Whistler’s ski atmosphere is filled with passionate skiers seeking adventure, from chutes to open bowls, there is plenty of snow for everyone to enjoy. After a hard day’s ski, there is nothing better than sitting out in the sun in the bustling après scene, with the local beer Kokanee at Merlin's at the base of both Blackcomb and Longhorn in Whistler. The amazing Nachos at Longhorns is great after a full day of skiing! The luxury hotels in Whistler are beautiful and most are located right by the slopes for easy access to ensure you get the first lift up in the morning. There are luxury hotels as well as apartments so there really is something for all budgets. The village itself offers great shopping from high street brands to the latest ski gear. There is a wide range of restaurants, a particular favourite of mine being Mongolie Grill, and also plenty of bars and clubs for those looking to party. Once you have experienced Whistler you will never want to go anywhere else!

For the best snow, the best terrain and the best all-round ski holiday experience, Whistler is your destination. If you would like to know any more about Whistler please do not hesitate to call Alpine Answers on +44 (0)20 7801 1080.
