Ski Weekends - Italy
Ski weekends in Italy are the best. Not only are the resorts lots of fun but they also offer great value for money too. There is something the Italians do that no other ski nation can emulate. Is it the sunny slopes? Or the fantastic food and wine; great coffee; or the Italian "look"? Is it the language or perhaps the friendly ski schools with their friendly smiles and relaxed approach to learning? Whatever it is, the Italian ski resorts have it in spades and consequently they work perfectly for a ski weekend.
Some say that the Italian resorts may not have the biggest ski areas or the most efficient lift systems but don’t let this put you off. Italian resorts offer something for everyone, so whatever standard of skier you are (beginner to powder hound), or whether you are after a romantic weekend with your partner or a boys' or girls' weekend away there is something for everyone.
Why take a ski weekend in Italy?
- Friendly atmosphere both in the hotels and in the resorts in general
- Cheaper lift passes and ski hire
- Excellent food in the hotels and mountain restaurants
- Value for money makes the Italian ski weekend hard to beat
Gateway airports for a ski weekend in Italy
As the Italian ski resorts are so dispersed a useful guide is one based on gateway airports. There are basically six main airports that serve the different ski resorts of the Italian Alps: Turin, Milan, Verona, Venice, Geneva (Switzerland) and Innsbruck (Austria).
Ski resorts reached from Turin Airport
From here you can easily access the resorts of the Milky Way as well as the Aosta Valley. Resorts which work best are: Bardonecchia, Sauze d’Oulx, Sestriere, Champoluc, Gressoney, La Thuile, Cervinia and Courmayeur. Many of the above resorts can also be reached by flying into Geneva Airport as well.
From Milan Airport
The resorts of the Monterosa ski area are easily reached from Milan: Alagna, Gressoney and Champoluc.
From Verona Airport
This airport serves the beautiful resorts in the Trentino Valley as well as resorts of the main Dolomite ski circuit known as the Sella Ronda. Resorts such as Madonna di Campiglio, Folgarida, Marilleva, Selva, Colfosco, Corvara and San Cassiano. Many of the above resorts can also be reached by flying into Innsbruck Airport.
From Venice Airport
Handy for the beautiful and historic resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
