Overview
The Royal Rochebrune Hotel is ideally situated in the village of Megeve, very close to the Rochebrune Cable Car.
The hotel has 60 well-appointed en-suite rooms: 40 standard doubles, 16 Royal doubles and 4 Junior suites. We would recommend the Royal double rooms above the standard doubles as the latter are on the small side. (Prices quoted below are for the Royal Doubles).
The staff are all very friendly and the food is of a good standard. The hotel is a short 5 minutes' walk from the Rochebrune cable car.
Very Comfortable 3 star hotel with a convenient location to access the lifts as well as the centre of town. We have never had any complaints from our clients staying here!

Client Comments
" I actually met Mr George Roe, the owner of the hotel, where I passed on my compliments. The staff are very friendly and helpful, food is of a good standard. All in all we thought the half-board package, the accommodation and proximity to the slopes, excellent "

" The first impression is not good. Some way up steep hill away from town centre, in a quiet rather solid residential area. The hotel is part of an anonymous 5 storey 20 year old apartment block, the entrance and foyer in a comfortable enough but clearly basement area which feels a bit old Soviet, not at all the welcoming heart one expects in a hotel. The garage extends the nuclear bunker analogy - cold, tight and awkward to park, linked by bare dark concrete passages and steel doors. But then.....the position is superb for the Rochebrune telecabine - 60 yards to the lift, admittedly up some steepish steps, but it gets you well warmed up first thing. Philipe Sports shop next door has free boot warmers and ski depot, and are really helpful. The staff are a small friendly and efficient team, led by a charming young manager. Our room was small (most were bigger) but comfortable and impeccably serviced with a view of Mont Blanc summit. The bar and restaurant were comfortable and relaxed and the food excellent - much better than your average 3 star - breakfast a high quality cornucopia and 3 course dinner - nothing repeated in 9 days, always a choice of fish or meat main, traditional with modern touch and prepared to a high standard. So staying at the Royal Rochebrune was a real pleasure and remarkably good value. Megeve is a lovely old Savoyard town - cobbled pedestrianised centre, jingling horse drawn carriages, some good trendy bars. The old money is a bit oppressive - lots of fur-covered poseurs, and ultra-chic shopping opportunities, but a super boulangerie, and saucisson and cheese shops, and at least 1 good value restaurant (Café 2 de la Poste). The resort is lowish so afternoon temperatures of 12'C meant lower slopes very soft. Navigation is sometimes not easy with several disparate areas and poor signage. But we had a super long-week's skiing thanks to a big fall just prior to arrival. Few blacks but plenty of interesting reds, and universally good mountain restaurants. Don't overlook Les Contamines which takes some getting to by bus - we drove - which has masses of open areas and plenty of snow. And always the powerful presence of the Mont Blanc Massif just across the valley. Alex Crouch, our sales person at Alpine Answers, was outstanding. I used Alpine Answers as I knew we would get good personally tailored advice. "

" 3 *** hotel did what it says on the tin. We had a very snug room and tiny bathroom, so would definitely go for a larger room next time. However, very comfortable bed and all clean etc. Traditional style, ie dark decor, dark wood, low ceilings and slightly gloomy lighting, but nothing offensive and certainly nothing unexpected for a 3 *** hotel. Lacking in atmosphere somewhat but excellent location for Rochebrune lift (if you don't mind a shortish walk with several steps....great for a warm up I always think!). Food was fine; nothing out of the ordinary. Good buffet breakfast. We ate twice in the evening but full board looked reasonable in price and variety. Bang next door to ski hire with very cheery helpful staff who handed us our equipment each morning and took it off us to put away at the end of the day. An expensive resort with a super amount of charm in the old village centre. Skiing very pleasant but not spectacular and the lift system seemed to work well enough although in peak weeks I can imagine it can get blocked in several places. We did not try out the shuttle bus options. The two main areas are linked easily but again this could get jammed when the resort is busy. All on-piste restaurants were very civilised and had good ambiance. We never saw a self-service restaurant, so not sure if they exist or not. A good resort for having a relaxing 4 day ski for a couple in their 50s. Probably not a teenagers resort nor for those who want to hammer down miles of slopes without having to take skis off. "
