Overview

The Chalet Hotel Mariandre is perfectly situated in Alpe d'Huez, close to the lifts and resort centre while keeping a distance from the lively après ski bars and nightlife. The chalet hotel is just 25 metres from the Telecentre lift which links you from the centre of the resort up to the Rond Point des Pistes or guests can ski down the piste (only 50 metres away) to the Eclose lift.

Inside the hotel there is a spacious lounge and bar area with comfy sofas, flat screen TV and large picture windows. The dining area is downstairs, split into two parts and furnished in a classic French 'bistro' style.

The Mariandre has a wide range of twins, doubles, triples and family suites; all the rooms are en-suite and some have the benefit of a balcony.

Alpine Answers say:

Good quality accommodation in prime location in the centre of the resort. The living area is light and spacious and the rooms are ample sized. The inter-connecting rooms are great for families.

Client Comments

" A bit tired and needs updating but excellent location and staff. Very welcoming and easy going hotel. Ski hire shop and lift pass office next door. We found Alpe d'Huez excellent for all round family skiing. Lots of big wide green and blue runs, and lots for the advanced skiers. All in easy access. Have been booking through Alpine Answers for many years. Very helpful. "

" The resort staff were very good. They were great with the kids - which is why you book with this operator! The Chalet Hotel Mariandre was average - the rooms are pretty outdated. Terrible lighting in them also - very dark. Glad we had 2 rooms for the 4 of us (2 adults & 2 children) otherwise would have been a terrible squash! Bar/Lounge area was sufficient although it did get crowded during busy times. Very over heated! Dinner downstairs was pleasant. Food good. Ambience not great - candles maybe?? No area for older kids to be and just 'chill'. Sam Dobson (Alpine Answers) was very efficient and helpful for our first time skiing with the children. The trip met with all our requirements and he had a good knowledge of the different resorts for that time of year. "

" We had a Fantastic holiday. The staff in the hotel were friendly, enthusiastic and willing to do that bit extra to make skiing with children enjoyable. We particularly like the option of flying from Southampton to Chambery as it makes transfers much shorter. The staff made life easy for you, from carrying bags to your rooms, to the different childcare options available. Our children were taken to ski lessons via the resort bus which did sometimes require a bit of waiting around, but the lessons were in small groups and at the appropriate level. Due to the high staff to child ratio they were able to provide a member of staff to ski along with the group to assist our son who has learning difficulties. Staff were always numerous, helpful and enthusiastic. A fairly basic hotel compared to others the company uses (3 star rating), but with en-suite facilities, reasonable size rooms and a lovely lounge bar. Although not next to the ski area it is close to two lifts giving reasonable access to the piste. Food was good, with excellent breakfast, afternoon tea, canapes, and 4 course dinner with wine. We liked the range of different slopes accessible from the main ski area. There was plenty of choice of blues and greens to take our children on for a couple of hours a day at the beginning of the week, with reds for them to move onto as they became more confident. We enjoyed skiing across all areas of the resort, helped by some fantastic snow conditions, and some lovely long runs. The lift system isn't great with a large number of drag lifts, slow chairs and cable cars but apart from the bottle necks at certain points there weren't many queues. Sarah Revell (Alpine Answers) was outstanding. It was great to have someone else to do the chasing around and finding prices. Alpine Answers staff have good knowledge of resorts, and hotels. Someone answers the phone when you ring or responds to emails. Staff happy to find out information for you and chase information on your behalf. "
