Overview

The Chalet Hotel Elisabeth was until 2014 a 4 star hotel in Lech. Now it has been taken over by one of the larger UK ski tour operators and turned into a very comfortable chalet hotel. The position of the Elisabeth is very good - set back from the main street and situated beside the lovely River Lech that runs through the resort, yet only a 4 minute walk to the pretty resort centre and the main Rufikopfbahn lift station. For a relatively large and sprawling resort it's important to have a great location and the Chalet Hotel Elisabeth certain delivers in this respect. Even the local bus which accesses the beginner lifts and main ski school meeting point stops close to the hotel, the nearest bus stop just 2 - 3 minutes' walk away.

The Gafgo family who have owned the hotel for many years created a hotel with much charm and Austrian character. There are a lot of exposed beams and wood panelling and the dining room is divided in to smart red upholstered stube style booths. The atmospheric Reindeer bar on the lower floor is where guests take their aperitifs before dinner and a night cap afterwards.

The former 4 star hotel facilities are there to be enjoyed by the guests. In the lower floor of the hotel there is the 'wellness' spa (only for guests over 13 years of age) with indoor pool (8m x 3m), sauna, steam room and relaxation area. Also on the lower floor is the Reindeer cellar bar. On the ground floor of the hotel there is the main lounge and bar area with fireplace and there is also a sun terrace.

The large bedrooms are traditionally decorated with many having an extra 3rd bed in either an alcove or at least set away from the main bedroom area. All the rooms have en-suite facilities (either bath or shower) and also have hairdryer, safe and TV.

Rooms 18 & 19, and 28 & 29 have a shared lobby so are ideal for friends or family

Alpine Answers say:

There are a number of excellent UK managed chalet hotels in Lech and this is probably the best of the lot. The Chalet Hotel Elisabeth has a great location close to the centre and the lifts, a welcoming atmosphere and the facilities of a former 4 star hotel (great bar, indoor pool, sauna & steam room and TVs in the bedrooms). We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

Client Comments

" The resort staff were enthusiastic, friendly, professional and well organised. We had stayed in the hotel for 10 years when it was under family management. This was our first holiday under the new British tour operator regime. We knew that some aspects would change e.g. British staff as opposed Austrian/German/Turkish etc., British clientele as opposed to mixed European, food and wine. We therefore knew what to expect but were not disappointed. The kitchen staff were very diligent but I think that the menu should be reviewed: one or two items, e.g. beef wellington, when served were not what one would have expected. Some dishes were cold and had to be returned to the kitchen. So, in summary, some improvements need to be made. "

" Great hotel, staff and resort. Ski hire shop excellent - Strolz - can leave skis and boots at shop by lifts for free if hired from them. Spacious rooms, great food and service. Wellness area great. Best ski holiday ever. We loved Lech - Fantastic ski area - extensive, interesting, no waiting at lifts, well looked after, cheaper than 3 Vallees! "

" Rep Mel was incredibly helpful in advising ski routes and booking our evening restaurant. She arranged the ski passes seamlessly and was cheerful, friendly and often present in the chalet to help with any problems. Food was outstanding in quality! Some issues in the kitchen with delays getting the food out; cooked breakfast took 45 mins to appear and evening meals took 2.5 hours to complete and we were hungry waiting. However, the food was delicious and well-presented and there were better quantities than previous catering experiences. Hotel was so near the ski-shop and slopes and centre of town, so just due to it's location I would be tempted to stay there again. Clean quiet spacious rooms. Chalet staff were great-tried really hard to please, friendly, helpful and efficient overall. Our restaurant meal out was superb, food delicious but obviously expensive as you would expect from Lech. Great supermarkets, pretty resort, our teens explored the night-life and had a lot of fun! A special mention must go to Strolz skiservice ski-hire. I have never experienced such an amazing process for hiring equipment. The staff are so helpful and friendly. When you return off the slopes, literally someone is there to take your skis from you and hand you your shoes, whilst they store your equipment overnight with heated boot racks. The shop is like a House and Garden show home with luxurious sofas, sport magazines and beautiful real fires burning. It is well-worth the premium paid for this service as equipment is also very up-to-date and hardly used. Book twice yearly with Earl (Alpine Answers) and have always received outstanding advice and care "
