Overview
This hotel, like the rest of Andermatt, is a delightful throwback to an era that has been long since forgotten in most ski resorts. One still feels in Andermatt that skiing is something of a pioneering sport. Unlike in Val d'Isere, St Anton, Meribel etc. where English voices bray out all over the mountain you really do feel that you have travelled abroad.
The Hotel Schweizerhof is a bit quirky and certainly some would say that it is in serious need of updating. The electric lighting is rather dim and the decor comes from perhaps the 60's. At any rate not much has changed there for many, many years. The bathrooms are usually not en-suite and instead are found on the landings outside the bedrooms. It does fall short of modern hotel standards but it has all the charm and atmosphere that a modern hotel lacks.
Situated on the main street it is only a few minutes' walk in one direction to the main lift station (actually usually this is a push on skis in snowy Andermatt), or a few minutes' walk in the other direction to the Spycher Bar and the centre of the village.
Quirky, old school hotel in this amazing resort. Great value for money and one for the off-piste brigade.
