Chamois D'or (sleeps 52 - 54) Val d'Isere

A good value for money chalet hotel.

What an amazing location! Situated at the foot of the Face piste on Bellevarde, you can ski from the door to the main lifts, nursery slopes and ski school meeting points, so it is absolutely ideal for families as well as keen skiers. However, you would have to ski/board the black Face run if you wanted to ski back! luckily though the Chamois d'Or is only five minutes walk from the resort centre if you don't fancy that challenge at the end of a long, tiring day.

The Chamois d'Or has a superb atmosphere with a relaxed ambiance. The airy dining room has a wall of picture windows offering superb views towards Solaise and the Manchet Valley and there is a small in house bar next to a huge open fireplace with comfortable sofas, perfect for a pre dinner aperitif or nightcap. Next door to the bar is a smaller lounge which is ideal for children and adults alike to play cards or board games in, or watch a DVD on the large TV.

The comfortable bedrooms are all individual in character and some of the nicest rooms are those with the most quirky features. All are ensuite, mostly twins but with the advantage of family suites and triple rooms providing a range of bedrooms to suit all needs.

Lower Ground Floor: Rooms 24 and 25
Ground Floor: Room 26
First Floor: Rooms 3 - 11
Second Floor: Rooms 12 - 18
Third Floor: 19 - 22

Note 1 from Alpine Answers: For split chalet bookings whereby different parties share the chalet the tour operator running this chalet has a policy that allows children of any age to share the chalet with other guests for any week. We advise checking prior to booking the ages of other guests already booked into the chalet. However, we cannot guarantee that a party with young children will not book after you.

Note 2 from Alpine Answers: The chalet staff are not qualified chefs but keen cooks with suitable experience, they work to a set chalet menu for the week and provide a vegetarian alternative for vegetarians or for guests that don't eat a particular evening's meat or fish dish. They obviously aim to please but at the same time they would expect a degree of compromise from any guests with specific dietary needs and requests whether by choice or for medical reasons (including for example, but not limited to - gluten free, dairy free or vegan). These guests should be happy to simply make the best of the chalet menu on offer and accept that the chalet staff will not be able to offer a completely alternative menu to suit their dietary requests. The chalet staff can get in touch the week before your arrival to discuss the menu and advise of things that you should bring.

Alpine Answers say...

This property is something of an institution. It occupies an undeniably fantastic location at the foot of the slopes and with a view across the nursery area towards the centre of Val d'Isere. Every year we expect the Chamois to be pulled to the ground and in its place a swanky new luxury hotel to be built. However, each season it reappears on the UK chalet hotel market as a great value for money property. The only snag is that in the meantime the required refurbishment and improvements that the property needs are put off. If you don't mind decor, furnishings and fittings that are more than a little dated then the Chamois d'Or remains one of the best 'value for money' catered properties in the resort.

Just wanted to let you know that it worked out brilliantly last week at the Chamois d'Or. Thank you so much for all your help arranging our holiday with our baby. Tillie had a nanny called Kristina, from Jelly & Ice Cream and she was awesome. The chalet was great fun and very social as you suggested.

The staff in resort were absolutely fine. Very friendly and helpful. It was the beginning of the season - some of them were a bit 'new' but that is to be expected. Great value for money - the chalet is great for kids and in a good location. Big living space - fun atmosphere. I say you get what you pay for and it was amazing value for Val d'Isere. Your website is excellent and I would always ring you for a group booking as you are always so patient and helpful.

Mrs L M    December 2011

Didn't see very much of the resort staff but when we did they were very pleasant, if a little dopey at times. We enjoyed the fact that we didn't have to wait at the airport for another flight coming in from a different UK location. Plane was most comfortable I have been on for a while. The Chalet Hotel was not so good. However, we were not disappointed as we knew what we were letting ourselves in for. The hotel is very out-dated and rather shabby with tiny rooms but we had been informed of that when we booked. The good things were the chef - who far exceeded normal chalet stardard of cooking, and the location - which is marvellous. We like the expert knowledge from Alpine Answers of resorts and the way Earl (in particular) listens and understands our brief. Next year I would prefer to go somewhere a little more up-market but for the price you couldn't better The Chamois d'Or in Val d'Isere!

The star rating for the ski hire shops is an indication of the level of service; quality and variety of stock, and the space and decor of the shop. It is also a reflection on the price. A five star rated shop will offer great service and equipment but also will charge the highest price. Ski hire shops with a two star rating have less variety and older, poorer quality of stock but are cheapest.

All prices and availability are subject to change by the tour operator. Therefore the price of your holiday can only be confirmed at the time of booking. The indicative prices shown on this website are per person for 7 nights (based on two people to a room) and are subject to the tour operator's terms and conditions.
