Winter Park is becoming increasingly popular as the resort size and facilities increase. It is the closest resort to Denver, has the biggest annual snowfall and is an extremely friendly, welcoming and relaxed resort. The skiing is particularly good for intermediates and beginners but there are plenty of challenges for the more advanced skier too! Berthods pass twenty minutes from the base of Winter Park is one of the best kept secrets for the off piste / advanced skier. Most of the accommodation is in spacious condos scattered around the road that goes through Winter Park. In the last few years, additional accommodation has been developed in a more luxurious style around the foot of the slopes, but this is still being built up and most of the services and facilities are based along the main road through the resort. Winter Park is also home to the US National Sports Centre for the Disabled, so if you are disabled, there really is no better place to go.

Resort Restaurants

There are a few options for eating out in the evening. Smoking Moe's offers a big salad bar and grills, for chinese try the New Hong Kong, for seafood and steak pay a visit to Deno's. If you fancy a more diverse dining experience then The Lodge at Sunspot at the top of Winter Park Mountain is open some nights during the week and offers a five course dinner on a Saturday.

Mountain Restaurants

Winter Park has about twelve places to go for lunch on the mountain. A few of these include The Lunch Rock Cafe which serves quick snacks, Club Car is central to the Mary Jane Centre and offers a wide menu including chowders, soups and daily specials, there are also a few pizza style restaurants such as Mamma Mia's Pizzeria. A great place to stop for a longer luncheon would be The Lodge at Sunspot, which has amazing views of the Continental Divide and the surrounding mountains. It also has a cosy log fire with both table service and self-service facilities.

Apres Ski

For a bit of a different apres ski theme, you could try the apres ski trail which starts at The Club Car and 19 bars later, finishes at The Crooked Creek Saloon. The Derailer Bar has a sun deck and The Kickapoo Tavern has two levels of outdoor decking areas.

Nightlife

For some late evening entertainment take a visit to Wildcreek, this restaurant bar often offers live music. Buckets is a sports bar, which can be good fun. Fraser is the area to go to for some authentic Western style bars and a livelier atmosphere. Please remember though that the Colorado's drinking laws apply here so most bars do not allow under 21's to enter.
