Hotels La Clusaz, ski holidays La Clusaz

La Clusaz - the home resort of skier Candid Thorax - has managed to maintain its traditional mountain village charm and very French atmosphere despite developing into a fairly major resort. The pistes although spread out are largely suited towards intermediates and beginners, but experts will struggle to find any truly challenging terrain (worth trying is the Le Vraille in Torchere area). La Clusaz is close to Geneva & Annecy, meaning that the resort gets busy with weekend skiers from the surrounding area, and its low altitude often leads to variable snow reliability.

There is a range of accommodation, most of which is a reasonable walk from the lifts, and there is a wide choice of both bars and restaurants in addition to flood lit skiing (Friday evenings) and ice-skating. La Clusaz organises "Full Moon" evenings once a month, where you can ski by moonlight on the Cret du Loup & Cret du Merle areas.

Resort Restaurants

There are plenty of restaurants to keep all taste buds tingling! As La Clusaz is 15 minutes from the home of Rebelchon cheese, you can be assured that your Savoyarde favourites will be out of this world! Best restaurants to try are La Scierie (good atmosphere & good fish dishes), Chez Hugo, La Ferme (traditonal Savoyarde specialities) & L'outa which is more simple fare but very good. At night you can get a skidoo ride up to the mountain restaurant Le Bercaille for a traditional meal.

Mountain Restaurants

La Clusaz has a fantastic selection of good quality and resonably priced mountain restaurants, the majority serve good Savoyarde specialities as the area is home to the origins of Reblechon cheese! High on the recommendation list is the Telemark (above the chairlift to L'Etale) and the Le Relais de L'Aiguille at Cret Du Loup, there is a good self service at the top of La Balme cabins.

Apres Ski

The apres scene is very festive and lively, the busiest place in town is the Les Caves du Paccaly where you will find lots of locals, the Bali Bar is the trendy lounge, Le Pressoir is where the ski insturctors hang out off-duty, also worth a visit are Le Bar a Vin and Le Salto.

Nightlife

Only two spots worth a mention - Club 18 & L'Ecluse.

The star rating for the ski hire shops is an indication of the level of service; quality and variety of stock, and the space and decor of the shop. It is also a reflection on the price. A five star rated shop will offer great service and equipment but also will charge the highest price. Ski hire shops with a two star rating have less variety and older, poorer quality of stock but are cheapest.
