Kitzbuhel is a charming, traditional town with medieval centre that really has something of everything; stunning scenery, atmosphere and some very good skiing on large attractive varied slopes. The nightlife is vibrant and there is much to do in town for non-skiers and skiers alike and there are some elegant and expensive hotels. Kitzbuhel also has plenty of low budget guesthouse accommodation (Kitzbuhel's younger visitors will make the most of this) some affordable and pleasant 3 star hotels, but there is limited chalet accommodation. Kitzbuhel centre is traffic free and the cobbled streets and walled old town with quaint church make this a compelling place to stay. The skiing is largely suited to intermediates although there is plenty of good off-piste for experts. However, the biggest attraction of the ski area is the excellent choice of mountain restaurants that make meeting other members of your party for lunch a treat.
There is much to like about Kitzbuhel - it has enormous charm and it is pretty hard not to have a good time there especially with so many fantastic hotels in Kitzbuhel. It is very much a town rather than a village so there are 'getting about' issues, however some hotels in Kitzbuhel will have a shuttle service to as close to the centre as possible. Those looking for a quiet and quaint bit of Austrian Alpine charm might be disappointed with the urban nature of the place, but for great atmosphere and fantastic skiing, it is great!

Resort Restaurants
Like in other resort towns of this size (Chamonix, Zermatt etc) there is plenty of choice for eating out suiting all budgets. The Neuwirt within the Schwarzer Adler hotel (Kitzbuhel has a number of hotels with restaurants you are able to dine in) is consistently regarded as the best in town. Also highly rated are the Unterbergen Stube and the Schwendenkappelle. Good less expensive places include the traditional Huberbrau-Stuberl, Chizzo, Eggerwirt and the Hagstein. For those looking for something a bit different you can also dine at the Casino, and on Friday and Saturday nights the restaurant at the top of the Hahnenkamm opens - this is a great experience and highly recommended if you fancy a night out from eating in your hotels in Kitzbuhel.
Mountain Restaurants
The mountain restaurants are one of the big attractions of Kitzbuhel, and keep the regulars coming back year after year. You should definitely take time out and have a long lazy afternoon at least one of these restaurants before skiing back to your hotel. Kitzbuhel's best mountain restaurants include the popular Hornkopfl-Hutte and the Alpenhaus. The Gipfelhaus is quieter with great views. Gasthof Hagstein is an attractive farmhouse. At Jochberg Pass Thurn we recommend: the Jagerwurtzhutte, Trattenbachalm, Hanglalm and Panoramaalm. In the Hahnenkamm sector the rustic Seidlalm and the Berghaus Tyrol are both good. Others to try include: the Melkalm, Hochbrunn (try the strudel), Steinbergkogel and the Kaserheckhutte (some say this is brilliant).
Apres Ski
Kitzbuhel is one of the best places in the Alps to experience true apres ski. From heaving bars full of a younger crowd, to quiet little places, nice cafes and spots for people watching and fur wearing, (especially in some of the fantastic 4 and 5 star hotels) Kitzbuhel has it all. After coming off the slopes and before heading back to your hotel, Kitbuhel's pay a visit to the popular Streifalm bar and the Sportcafe Holz. For those looking for the pastries you should head for Cafes Praxmair, Kortschak, Langer and Rupprechter - being the most atmospheric venues.
Nightlife
Later in the evening the American style Highways bar and Lichtl's (with thousand of lights hanging from the ceiling) get packed and also has karaoke. Seppi's pub is good for watching sport on the large screens, eating pizzas and enjoying the eccentricities of the owner/manager. Olympia and Take Five are the two main discos in town but the Londoner Pub is probably the most popular - it gets crowded but is lots of fun. Many hotels in Kitzbuhel are centrally located, so getting home after a night out is never usually a big issue.
