Hotels Bad Gastein, ski holidays Bad Gastein

Bad Gastein is a traditional Spa town (it is not a small traditional mountain village), dramatically set in a gorge with a waterfall crashing beneath the main street. The centre of the resort is impressive with the Spa town heritage but is not easy to explore with small children on account of the topography. The ski area though is impressively extensive (covering 20 resorts in the Ski Alliance Amade area) and more snow-sure than most Austrian resorts. Unfortunately, the four different sectors are not well linked, and without a car, the skier is reliant on the bus or train services. However, if you have the patience, the resort and the slopes have a lot going for them. Good, atmospheric mountain restaurants, interesting pistes, lively nightlife and there's plenty to do for the non-skier.

Resort Restaurants

There is a selection of restaurants to choose from in the resort centre. The Wirtshaus Jagerhausl has a central location with great food in a traditional setting. The restaurant in the Hotel Gruner Baum has won awards for one of the most outstanding dining rooms in the region. For fondue, head to the Bellevue Alm or the Hofkeller.

Mountain Restaurants

There are several traditional huts scattered around the mountain. Try the Jungerstube, Hartlgut, Apfelstrudl or the Waldgasthof Angertal.

Apres Ski

Although hit may appear to be slightly subdued there are a few bars in Bad Gastein offering some good apres ski. The bars near the Felsentherme outdoor baths are quite popular after coming off the slopes. There are also a few bars in town including Haeggbloms, Silver Bullet and Eden's Pub.

Nightlife

Several discos can be found in the resort if you fancy a dance. The Weinfassl is a good place to go to for a dance and some drinking games. Ritz in the Hotel Salzburgerhof has live music and some great cocktails. If you fancy something a bit different, then you could head to the casino. Or for a quieter late night drink, head to the Bellini bar.
