Snowbird's reputation for incredible powder must be seen to be believed. You go there to ski and only to ski. There is really not much else to do. The village consists of a selection of hotels and condo blocks. To look at it is stark, grey and rather austere and reminiscent of some of the 60's resorts in Europe. However, look the other way out onto the mountain and it is truly spectacular in a rather European way with dramatic peaks, rocks and gullies. It is a haven for experts with numerous double black diamonds however there is plenty for the less that expert but keen off-piste skier to tackle and much of the good stuff is very easy to navigate around. It is linked to Alta, which makes it one of the largest ski areas in the US and between both areas provide plenty for those who prefer the groomed pistes. Back country tours and heli-lifts are available. Boarders can have a wild time in Snowbird but are not permitted in Alta. Children are encouraged and they offer a free lift pass for children 12yrs and under with every adult with a supplement for the tram. We'd recommend doing a two-centre trip with one of the other resorts in Utah.

Quantity and quality of snow is hard to rival anywhere in the world (nearly all North facing)
With its links to Alta is it one of the larger ski areas in North America
Fabulous ungroomed slopes with both steep and not so steep options

Limited groomed runs for intermediates

Chairlifts are antiquated and slow
The village architecture is big, bleak, modern and rather inhospitable looking

Resort Restaurants

For eating in the evening there are lots of places to choose from. Cliff Lodge and Snowbird Center are the central points to head to. Aerie restaurant has an award winning wine list and an American menu; Keyhole Junction is good for ribs and kids menus. The Steak Pit is a popular choice, and for a varied menu the Wildflower has Italian, Spanish, Provencal and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Mountain Restaurants

There isn't really much on option for mountain restaurant eating. There is a self-service cafeteria at Mid-Gad Lodge, but that is it. There are other options however back at the resort base, such as Rendezvous, Superior Snacks and Birdfeeder.

Apres Ski

A couple of bars popular with the locals are the Keyhole Catina in Cliff Lodge, and The Wildflower lounge, which has a big screen TV and a pool table. The Tram Club is another lively place to go to once you have finished on the slopes, it is located on the bottom floor of the Snowbird Center at the base of the slopes.

Nightlife

Nightlife in Snowbird is very tame. The Tram Club has a nightclub and will either have live music or a DJ. Many of the nightspots are private clubs and will charge entrance fees.
