Kirchberg, links into Kitzbuhel's extensive ski domain, but is far from the quiet, more rustic neighbour you might expect. In fact, Kirchberg is a lively, young and commercialised resort, suffering from traffic congestion and a sprawling, inconvenient layout. The low altitude also means, poor natural snow, affecting the lower slopes. However, if you want to have a cheap and cheerful holiday, go in January/February, and you shouldn't be disappointed.

Resort Restaurants

Kirchberg is not known for its fine dining, however this does not mean there is not the odd place to find a great meal. Try the Rosengarten restaurant if you want to sample some traditional Austrian cuisine. The restaurant is only a 2 star but the quality of the food and warmth of service do not reflect this below average rating. The food has been described as "impeccable" and one of the only criticisms is that they serve too much dessert! Head to the Pizzeria Epson Oeztoprak Bahr for the best pizza in town.

Mountain Restaurants

At last count there was 41 mountain restaurants in Kirchberg. The best advice we've heard is to head further afield if you want to take your lunch on the mountain. In other words, do not choose a restaurant near the lifts or the ski school meeting points or you'll spend half of your precious skiing time spent in a rowdy queue waiting for you rushed lunch. For a cosier, lazy lunch head to one of the small traditional chalet style mountain restaurants where you will be treated with beautiful Austrian cuisine as well as a lot more personal and welcoming service. There are also some great restaurants/bars dotted along the slopes heading back to the village which are a perfect place to start your apres ski.

Apres Ski

Apres ski in Kirchberg is nearly as important as the skiing itself. It's very popular amongst the Dutch crowd as well as the British and the pubs and bars here reflect this. Head to the Londoner and Big Ben which are always packed and can guarantee you a good night. The Londoner is located just across from McDonald's and is by far the best place for "dance on the table in your ski boots" type apres ski from 4pm-8pm. For Irish singing and shenanigans, head to Flannigan's Irish Pub which is also a good place to meet straight off the slopes. If you can handle it you can stay out from 4pm until at least 4am in Kirchberg as this town hardly sleeps!
